Lucidity’s Animation

October 15, 2009

These are some movement thumbnails that animator Saul Ruiz would sketch up before animating, to get a sense of the personalities of the enemies you encounter in the world.  In these sketches, he was thinking of the frog as a karate expert, and the mushroom as an angry sumo wrestler. More after the jump.

Jeff Sangalli adds this “We are very fortunate in our team that we have several people in the art department that studied classical 2D animation.  As an animator, Saul’s ability to sketch out thumbnails first is invaluable.  He creates animation breakdowns in a sketch pad before he even touches a computer.”

Saul has lots of little sketches like this posted around the office.  They’re tiny and charming, done with thee finest point pen you’ve ever seen.
